how hospitals provide care related to heart attacks, heart
failure, and pneumonia.

Here are some of the things our patients,
the people who have first hand experience with the quality
of care provided at Town & Country, are saying about the
hospital
Dear Town & Country Hospital Staff:
4/22/05
On
behalf of our entire family, we send Dr. Jorge Inga, and the
Town Country Hospital staff our deepest gratitude for the
exceptional care you showed our father before, during, and
after his back surgery. As with any major operation, back
surgery is a very difficult and complicated procedure with
some uncertainty of outcome. So you understand, although our
dad was the one actually. Having the surgery, the decision
to more forward with the procedures was not an easy one for
either one of our parents. Prior to surgery, we can honestly
say there were many sleepless nights, but our dad was confident
he had the best; he was right!
To
say trust was a priority is an understatement. Frankly, failure
was not an option with this case, as our parents are the pillars
of strength in our family, Understanding our concerns, especially
the emotional roller-coaster involved with this decision,
Dr. Jorge Inga embrace our parents like his own family. Not
did he take the time to explain every detail of this difficult
procedure before surgery, but followed-up with phone calls
even when he was, out of the country, on vacation.
To
each of the following staff members mention below, our father
would like to take the opportunity to personally thank you.
He personally speaks of each of you, and relates his surgery
experience to the exceptional care and treatment you provided
him during his stay at the Town & Country Hospital.
Dr.
Jorge Inga, Elaine Washington, R.N., Nayda Colon, Frances
and Lisa (Physical Therapy), Rod Walden, Yvette Crosby, Viju
(nurse), Judy Martucci, R.N., Angie (evening assistant), and
Frida Mosely.
In
his won words, “Words cannot describe the way they cared
for me. They were wonderful and did whatever they could to
make me feel at home. They were awesome!” From a son's
perspective, there is not doubt that you folks are the best
in Tampa.
The nurse who discharged me was great, she helped me
with getting into the car and even buckled my seatbelt, she
went out of her way to make me comfortable. D.G. 4/17/05
We saw the nurse practitioner and she was awesome. The
pharmacy called to change the meds from liquids to chewable.
She told us to do so if my daughter preferred and even gave
us the direct number to the emergency department. 4/15/05
Great staff in outpatient surgery and operating room.
I would definitely have surgery here again. 4/19/05 Orthopaedic
Surgery
The Triage nurse was very compassionate, and very concerned
about my condition. D.C. 4/9/05
All the staff members were very efficient
and they treated me very well. The housekeeping was excellent
in keeping the hospital clean.
Everything was great. The nurse was attentive and the
doctor was great. I didn't feel like I was left waiting.
I was treated very well with professionalism and compassion.
It's one of the best hospitals I've ever been to. All
the nurses and doctors were very nice.
My wait wasn't long. I really had a super nurse by the
name of Paul. He was on day shift and made sure everything
was alright. I felt like he actually cared about me.
Diane was very helpful and even came to see me in my
room.
Everybody was nice, helpful and friendly.
Everybody was very kind and considerate.
There were several nurses that were excellent.
All the nurses were wonderful. Lisa was really good.
In general everybody did a very good job. I thought the
ER nurse and doctor were real concerned. The nurses were good
on the surgical floor. I felt like everybody did their best
to make my experience pleasant.

Today, a number of different agencies report
information about hospital quality on the Internet. These
websites can be a good source of information for healthcare
consumers and many of them provide reliable data that can
help consumers make informed decisions about where to seek
care. But, there are some things that should be considered
in reviewing these Internet reports.
Is the information current?
Most data reported on the Internet is historical data. It
could be years old, or just a matter of months old. If the
data is not recent, it may not accurately reflect the care
being provided by a hospital today.
What is included in the data?
In some cases, data may be about only one hospital service
or even just a small part of the treatment provided for a
certain condition. For example, it is important to educate
heart attack patients who are smokers about the health dangers
associated with smoking, however, that is just one part of
effective treatment for heart disease.
In some cases, data may represent only a
short period of time – for example just one quarter,
or three month’s of hospital care.
Reports may also include only certain types
of patients. For example, if only Medicare patients are included
in a report, the data would not reflect all of the care provided
to a hospital’s patients.
Data may also be reported for a small number
of patients at one hospital, and compared to hospitals that
treat a larger number of patients. This can affect percentage
ratings, which can be misleading.
Who is reporting the data?
There are many reputable reporting agencies, including government
agencies, healthcare data organizations, and hospital associations.
Consumers should check the credentials of any group reporting
healthcare quality data.
