WHAT ARE YOUR CHOICES?
Surgical removal of the prostate and its surrounding tissue
is called prostatectomy.
The Urological Center is equipped with the da Vinci
Surgical System, a system that integrates the skill of a
physician with the preciseness and accuracy of robotic technology.
This minimally invasive procedure uses robotic arms controlled
by a physician seated in a console next to the patient.
The physician is able to see true 3D images of the operating
field on a monitor. With 3D images, the surgeon can identify
vital anatomy such as delicate nerves and blood vessels
surrounding the prostate. The surgeon performs the operation
by putting his hands in special devices called “masters.”
The surgeon is then able to move small surgical instruments
attached to the end of the robotic arms. Using EndoWrist
technology, the instruments move exactly as the hand moves,
allowing increased dexterity, maneuverability and preciseness.
